It’s World Fair Trade Day 2011

May 14th, 2011

Do you have the right idea about Fair Trade?

It’s not some far-flung hippie idea. And you don’t have to go to a specialty store like Whole Foods to find Fair Trade products.

Believe it or not, chains like Target and many supermarkets now carry Fair Trade items like coffee, tea and chocolate at reasonable prices. And online stores like Taraluna offer many Fair Trade gift items, including baby clothes and children’s furniture. (If you shop at Taraluna, use coupon code FTD2011 through May 16 for a discount.)

Today, May 14, is World Fair Trade Day.

I know that you may not always have a choice, but when you do see Fair Trade for sale, please realize what it means.

Fair Trade is important for several reasons. If you’re against child labor, then you’re for Fair Trade. If you believe in gender equality, then, again, you’re for Fair Trade. If you like the idea of people receiving a decent wage, helping developing areas thrive, and using sustainable farming practices, then you’re a lover of Fair Trade. Finally, if you hate poverty, then buy Fair Trade.

Become a fan of Fair Trade. Like World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) on Facebook. And please buy a Fair Trade item this weekend.
