Lynn from Little Kay Gardens is sponsoring a contest to give away a package of Flowering Gift Wrap to two winners! The recycled gift wrap is seeded with hundreds of wildflower seeds. The person receiving your gift will have a whole new way to recycle!
In a recent comment, Lynn said,
“I am a mom of two girls. Throwing out birthday party gift-wrap made me realize I had become a significant contributor to the landfill crisis in our country…. so this summer I did something about it. I reached out to an incredible horticulturist, Jim Johansen, and together we developed Flowering Wrapping Paper!
I wanted to create an accessible way for people to make a difference. This is a product we all use, and if you can give the gift of flowers as well, even better!
This pre-seeded gift-wrap is made from 100% recycled paper and currently available in 3 colors, with more on the way! The planting instructions are easy to follow and can be found with our gift cards and on our website.”

Leave one comment on this post telling me about any green new year’s goals you made (ie, taking your own bags to the store or buying recycled paper). Two winners will be randomly selected and announced on January 22, 2009. (Enter by end of day on January 21.)
Also, please check your spam filters as the winners will have three days to respond to my email before I pick someone else.
Good luck!

I can’t enter the contest, because my goals for the new year revolve around more immediate problems, but that’s just nifty! Nice prize, Peggy!

I have resolved to become a wee bit more green by always remembering to take my cloth bags grocery shopping and trying to walk, rather than drive, to the grocery store!

What I have done to “Go Green” for 2009 is I started shopping with a “green” shopping bag instead of using plastic or paper bags

My ‘new’ green goal for 2009 is to encourage my husband to use a snow shovel rather than the snow blower. Then in the Fall I plan to use the rake rather than the leaf blower.

I love this idea! I have seen birthday cards with seeds, but never wrapping paper. One of things I did was lower the thermostat on my hot water heater by 15 degrees. Nobody has noticed!

We are making an effort to reduce/reuse more, in addition to the recycling we already do. Instead of buying new, we are looking at repairing what we have or buying second where practical. What a fun giveaway item. Instead of recycling that paper in a bin, they can recycle in the garden and enjoy a second gift!

Our home New Years Resolution was to start being more green. We’ve changed our light bulbs & our apartment building has become more green themselves since they are now being charged for the amount of garbage the building produces. We’ve been recycling like mad, even empty toilet paper rolls & buying products with less packaging.

I am going to try and recycle more this year. It is very hard because my neighborhood does not have a recycling program so I have to take everything to different places.

Thanks for the chance to win. I love trying to be more green. One thing from the 3 R’s that is always underused is to REDUCE. I plan on reducing my water usage, my electricity usage and my gas usage. It is a lifestyle change/choice but worth it for our children.

My green resolution is to become friends with Colleen S, so that I can get one of her home made shopping bags. Seriously though, I try to use my bags at every opportunity and we did use them for Christmas gifts. I think to do more cooking with the foods we grow. Some of it goes to waste. Also, we’re trying to come up with our own garden tunnel to extend the growing season. It’s under ice right now, but when it thaws we’ll get it back up and start over. So extending the garden season is part of my resolution.

I have reusable grocery bags but I always forget to use them. I’m putting them in my car so they’ll always be handy. I’m also using recycled paper for shipping packages, and I’m buying products for companies that use green packaging as often as possible.
