Compact bulbs for dimmable lights

October 10th, 2007

A couple of readers commented on how compact fluorescents don’t work so well in dimmable light fixtures. It turns out that you do need to buy a special bulb for dimmable fixtures. If you’ve used these special bulbs, please leave a comment. I’d like to know if they flicker or hum.

It appears that the dimmable compact fluorescent bulb market is still maturing. Topbulb is known for supplying hard-to-find bulbs, but the dimmables do seem to be more expensive. Buylighting.com is another source and they sell some ENERGY STAR certified dimmable bulbs.
