Republican Candidate Who Believes in Climate Change?!

August 18th, 2011

With the entry of a rather wild-eyed Rick Perry into the GOP race, it seems there’s a bit of fresh focus on climate change denying. The Texas governor says that scientists “manipulated data so that they will have dollars rolling in to their projects.” (Huff Post)

To be honest, Perry scares me a lot, which is why I’m so nervous about the media rushing to proclaim their top tier candidates: Bachmann, Romney and Perry.

Who says? The silly little Iowa straw poll doesn’t mean anything. And why do we have to love Perry? Is it just because he has so many people rushing to give him campaign funds? You don’t need me to tell you that our political system is corrupt.

So, I was very surprised to see the largely ignored candidate Jon Huntsman portrayed in a recent Mother Jones article as someone who has an “acceptance of the reality of anthropogenic climate change.”

Wow, a Republican who’s not afraid to say what he really thinks instead of what he believes some people expect to hear. By the way, Rick Perry backed Al Gore’s campaign in 1988! (Politico)

Yes, the economy is crap, but I’m afraid that also means that environmental topics will be forgotten in the upcoming race.

Please don’t ignore the importance of taking care of the earth so that it survives without too many scratches for generations to come.

Even if you don’t believe in climate change, there are so many other areas where we need to improve: protecting endangered species, developing and encouraging alternative energy, reducing the very real possibility of another devastating oil spill and so much more.

Why do you think the media is ignoring one of the only Republican candidates who thinks climate change is real?
