Didn’t you know that kitten season is in full swing? Yep. March through November has been dubbed kitten season.
Now’s the time when shelters and rescues find themselves teeming with far too many kittens. Yeah, there’s such a thing as too many kittens, sadly.
There are more kittens than people who want them. Not all kittens will make it to forever homes. The best ways to reduce the annual kitten explosion are to have your cat spayed or neutered and to support Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs in your community. If you can’t have your cat neutered, please keep him indoors.

You knew this was coming: If you have room in your home and heart, now is the perfect time to bring home a new furry pal! Yet, as ASPCA reminds us, during kitten season, it’s even more difficult to find loving homes for adult cats. So, please consider them too.
Kitten season facts from ASPCA:
- A female cat can begin having kittens at 6 months of age
- One mother cat may produce 10 to 20 kittens in one season
- An unspayed female cat will go into heat multiple times during kitten season
- During kitten season, the number of kittens far exceeds the number of homes available
Have you adopted a kitten lately?
