I told you I’d come back and do this!
I tried out both brands of my new silicone baking cups that are replacing paper baking cups for me. Overall, I was very impressed.
I mixed chocolate chip muffin batter and placed the filled cups on a baking sheet. No muffin pan is needed, so I wanted to try that out. Here’s the photo:
The cooking time for the silicone cups did not differ from using paper baking cups in a muffin pan. The Silicone Zone cups seemed to release easier than the KitchenAid cups. However, muffins in both brand of cups came out easily.
I probably filled one of the KitchenAid cups too full and it spilled over a little. So, there’s one reason to be more careful if you’re not using a muffin pan. It wasn’t too bad though:
I let the muffins cool a couple of minutes before I released them from the cups. Only a few crumbs were left inside the cups. Nope, I didn’t use cooking spray. See:
I know the silicone cups are dishwasher safe, but they are so small and light. I worried about them. I loaded them up anyway. I placed the cups on the top shelf.
I checked the dishwasher after a few minutes and the cups had flown around everywhere, with some floating on the bottom of the dishwasher. I decided it was better to wash them by hand, but you can use a basket designed for washing baby bottles in the dishwasher if you want.
What did my husband say when I gave him a silcone-cup-baked muffin? “It’s nice to not have to fight with the wrapper.” Yip. And the muffins seemed to be cooked more evenly as well.
