    When Meshindi was alive he was a certified therapy dog who visited children at our local children’s home. It always amazed me how the 125 pound dog could be so gentle with the kids. He not only touched my life but made such a difference in the lives of the children he touched.

    So many pets have touched my life in so many ways, I don’t know where to start – I currently have 3 cats and I dog and there’s not a day that goes by that they don’t do something to make me smile. I still miss my Siamese pound kitty who loved to give neck massages and suck on hair.

    I have loved many pets, but my favorite was a cat we got from the animal shelter. She was a tiny kitten, only about 5 weeks old. We named her Gizmo, and she was the smartest, most loving cat I ever had. She kept me company and comforted me through some very dark days in my life. I will always be thankful that she was a part of my life.

    It has to be my dog Bo..my mother would never let us have pets growing up and Bo was the first dog I ever owned. He would do anything for me and worships the ground I walk on..I can’t even go to the bathroom without him.

    My dog Zeus, a big, goofy, shaggy pup, is the love of my life. From the day I brought him home (as a tiny puppy with HUGE paws), he has made me laugh and filled my life with joy. Now 90 pounds, he also keeps me in shape, as he requires a lot of exercise. At the end of my work day, I can’t wait to get home to him. It’s true love!

    My family had a collie named Gypsy who was the most loyal, gentle dog. When my mother became ill, Gypsy would follow her everywhere as if she were keeping an eye on the situation. I’ve never forgotten this amazing dog.

    I have been a veterinary technician for 15 years. Many dogs have touched my life, but I guess it was my very first dog, Samantha that inspired me the most. She was a stubborn and smart Rottweiler that taught ME what having a dog is all about.

    I once had a cat (she passed a couple of years ago) that I rescued at 3 weeks old. My son was severely speech and language impaired. Whenever he got upset she would crawl on his chest and not leave until he told her he was okay. He had to actually say the words, not easy for him to do, or she would not leave. One time he tried to fake a cry to see what would happen, and she promptly bit him on the nose. It was quite funny and he never did it again. I have never had a cat like that before or since.

    I had a chihuahua that went everywhere with me and never left my side. When my dad got sick and had to spend a lot of time in the hospital, I reluctantly sent the dog to live with my mom. He was a wonderful companion to her when she was home alone.

    I got my first pet other than fish when I was 9. She was a parakeet named Perky. I got her for my birthday. She taught me a lot. Like being responsible, pets are family, and animals will be the ones to never judge you. I lost her when I was 15, and I cried my eyes out. I always keep what she thought me with me.

    I had a cocker spaniel (or he had me) for 17 years. He was my best friend and went everywhere with me! He passed away and I miss him SO much 😦

    Our Chocolate Lab, Jasper, passed away in November. He was the best behaved, most loyal dog in the world. He is missed.

    My very first dog (as in when I was a baby/toddler) taught me how to stand and walk by letting my grab her fur and pull up(ouch!) I have the pictures to prove it. She was gentle and never once bit anyone. I remember my mom telling me a story about seeing the dog “biting” me and running to us to see why i wasn’t wailing. Turns out I was holding her jaw in my hand and she was just sitting there minding her own business. Poor girl had a tough life, but she seemed content with the way it was going.

    So many dear pets have enriched my life and left a mark on my heart forever, but there is one special little cat named Mickey I well tell you about. My little boy, Mickey was the runt of the litter, born at a feral cat community next to a campground where my son had a summer job. He noticed that Mickey’s mom rejected him, so he brought him home to me. We brought him to the vet because he had an upper respiratory infection and lots of fleas. When he was 2, he had major bladder cyst surgery and wasn’t supposed to survive. He was on a lifetime special diet, and I just lost him this past October 2nd at the age of 11 years and 8 months. Mickey was my constant companion who gave me unconditional love and seemed to watch over me. He gave me comfort through the deaths of my brother (my only sibling,) in 1996, my Mom in 2002, and my Dad in 2005. He seemed to be able to “read” my moods, and know when I needed that extra love and comfort from him. It’s been very hard going on without him. I do have two other cats who I love very much, so they do help me to heal, but my Mickey will always be in my heart and there’s not a day that I don’t think of him.
